BIO
Nellie Gehrig creates pieces that reflect the natural world and its interconnectedness.
Through the act of hand stitching, the repetitive and meditative process as well as the final product of piecing together, symbolizes a coming together. Her hope is to make aware the common thread that runs through every living and past living thing. Her collections of fossils and botanicals that are in process of being turned back into earth are a reminder to enjoy the act of looking at what is often overlooked or discarded and to refocus beauty, shaping the way one perceives it. As well, through shaping painting into forms, or vessels, expresses a new way of viewing and brings to light that the universe is multidimensional. There is more than one way of seeing.
